I'm not actually too fond of snufmin as a romantic relationship, I completely understand why people are though. But my favourite part of snufkin and moomins relationship is that they can have a friendship closer then best friends without it being romantic, you can hold hands and hug and dance with the person closest to you without having to be romantic. It might just be because Im aromantic and don't feel those types of emotions at all, but I don't notice close platonic relationships in media very often. Those are always pushed aside for romantic feelings, as if you can't feel love for a person in a close and platonic way without it having to turn to a romantic love. Seeing a relationship like snufkin and moomins is so refreshing and I really do wish more people could understand platonic relationships are just as important and capable of being close

I know Noralities isn't the best critic but at least she's a better analyzer and critic on the series compared to James Somerton and Lily Peet. The multiple interpretations of the word "revolution" fits so brilliantly into the context of the story and I'm glad to report that this also works for the Japanese "kakumei" (革命), which can be translated as "cycle" or "revolution" as a systematic change. To me that solidifies that this was not a poetic bonus interpretation based on the English translation, but a fundamental part of the story ❤.

I don’t know if you know this but they re did the dub a while back and it kept the lgbt representation without the rika relationship in the mix. It was honestly one of my favorite shows as a kid because of that so I’d recommend giving the new dub a try.

I think we would all love to live in a world where a thirteen year old could go on an adventure to a big city and be taken in by a loving couple. It isn't a movie told from an adult's perspective. It is a movie told from a kid's conception of what the world could be like. Your review highlighted many aspects of the story I had glossed over. I watched it in thai dub back when i was eight and they cut out Rika's relationship as well but kept the majority of the LGBTQ themed relationships. I think that was one of the first instances of BL relationship in TV shows ive seen - the rest being my aunts collection of BL mangas - which opened a path for me tp explore about genders and pronounces. Luckily, there was no manga version that i could read so i never knew the extent of the age gap relationships, I wasnt really paying attention Sakura's parents age as they often appeared briefly. Plus I had somewhat of a first puppy crush on Touya which made me feel somewhat relatable with Sakura and especially Syaoran although I've never liked him to their extent since, he is a 2D character, it was my first crush on a boy. When I saw that Syaoran also had a crush on a boy and Sakura accepting it sincerely, it made me feel related to. (And I got to see my family's reaction to it to guage how they felt about it) Honestly, this anime was a surprisingly crucial part to my self discovery, cause I didnt have another boy crush for the next 5 years. I would've thought i was uninterested in relationships at all if it weren't for my crush on Touya 😂

17:05 the only things about Princess Tutu that I can say that didn't age well was that 1) Mr Cat THREATENS his teenage female students with MARRIAGE as a PUNISHMENT. Don't like the implications there, not at all. If it weren't for that gag, I would've liked his character a little more. And 2) that short scene of Rue kissing Mytho as a child. He's an ageless/timeless teenage boy while she's a LITTLE GIRL in that shot. I know she's giving him water, doesn't make that scene any less uncomfortable. But those are my only honest criticisms of the show. About the ending with Ahiru still being a duck and Fakir writing on the dock, I like to think that, yes, he's working on other things, but in his heart he's hoping to write Ahiru back as a human. But for now, she's just a duck, and she needs her rest.

I know that this two video series was posted quite long ago now, but I was wondering what are your thoughts on manwha and the major isekai boom it seems to be in for a few years now? It appears like the aspects you are looking for in isekai anime is more than prominent in the manwha which I read. For example, "50 Tea Recipes from the Duchess" and "Not-Sew-Wicked Stepmom" (at least the first season) have the 'showing and explaining the science / history' aspect (although the latter appears to go away from that past the first season unfortunately) and "Becoming the Dark Hero's Daughter" and "Not-Sew-Wicked Stepmom" especially have a very strong found-family aspect to them. To add to your point, I noticed a lot in my experience that manga, let alone anime, really do not do the isekai genre well. It seems like manga/anime is quite heavily focused on promoting more "male-oriented" stories such as those featured in shonen or any story following similar conventions, which results in the problem outlined in your previous video. However, again from what I've been noticing with my minimal experience, it seems like manwha seems to focus on the opposite? Like more often then not the main character in a manwha isekai story would be female and the plot itself focuses more on telling "female-oriented" stories which seems to lead to the conventions you seem to adore in "Ascendance of a Bookworm". Sorry for the (self-indulgent) rant, however I find this difference between manga and manwha fascinating and I do want to hear your thoughts about this distinction, whether you have experience with this or not. Anyway, amazing video, 10/10, would write an essay comment again cause I can't convey thoughts normally, time to watch "Ascendance of a Bookworm" now-

If you want another adult stop motion horror about a house I would recommend The Wolf House, an Argentinian film about a girl who runs away from a Nazi cult. Instead of using clay or figures like most stop motion, they use paper mache, usually creating the characters and sets during the story.
